China says no need for ‘unnecessary panic’ as US, Japan announce travel curbs

The US, Japan and others tightened travel curbs to virus-hit China on Friday even as the country insisted there was no need for countries to impose “excessive measures”. The epidemic has infected nearly 10,000 people and been declared a global emergency. Russia, Britain and Italy all reported their first two cases and Rome declared its own national emergency.
