A fire broke out on Wednesday at a Paying Guest house being run from an apartment in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area, officials said. The PG accommodation caters to only women.

According to the Delhi fire department, the information was received at 7.47 pm, following which 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the blaze.

The fire broke out in Signature Apartments in Mukherjee Nagar.

Visuals from the site shows smoke and flames coming out from the ground floor apartment of a multi-storey building on a narrow lane.

“The fire is extinguished, there were around 35 girls and all are safe, it seems that the fire started from a meter board installed near the staircase and spread to the upper floors, the building (G+3) has only 1 staircase,” a Delhi Fire Services official said.

Mukherjee Nagar is 3.5 km from Delhi University and is a hub of paying guest accommodation and coaching centres.
